Travelling to Russia Soon? Here Are the Entry Rules & Requirements

Russia is a vast country known for its rich history, fascinating culture, famed art and architecture, and more. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the whole world. It is also one of the safest countries for tourists worldwide.

You are probably here looking for information because you plan to visit the country soon. Although there are certain restrictions and rules, travelling to and enjoying a vacation in Russia is still very much possible.

Here is everything you need to know about visiting the country.

On the Restrictions and Rules

Direct Flights From the UK to Russia Are Currently Postponed

Russian authorities have suspended any current direct flights until March 16, 2021. To ensure that your flight will push through, consider calling your travel company to get the latest updates.

Some People are Exempted From the Restrictions

The following people are exempted from some restrictions imposed by the government:

  • Russian citizens
  • Members of the Diplomatic missions
  • Highly qualified specialists

Make sure to call your Ministry of Foreign Affairs before travelling to learn about recent changes in the restrictions.

For the UK Residents

For now, UK residents are still strictly urged to stay within their country of residence unless they belong to the following categories:

  • They have the proof that they are indeed resident of the country
  • They have a document showing scheduled departure
  • They are permanent residents of that country

For foreign people inside Russia who are considered stateless persons or foreign citizens, you have until June 15, 2021, to renew your visas and other documents. This rule exempts those in prison, those who have violated the country’s border regulations, and those considered threats to the country’s security.

Again, if you plan to travel outside of the country right now, make sure that you research each country’s COVID-19 requirements and follow them accordingly. Aside from the country, each airline also implements its own set of preventive measures that you need to know.

For example, if you plan to visit Moscow soon, expect to see an express PCR COVID-19 test in the Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo airports. You can also encounter these tests at different locations, such as state and private clinics.

On COVID-19 Quarantine Requirements

Here are some of the critical notes to know when planning to travel to Russia:

  • All travellers entering the country should have a negative COVID-19 test certificate dated less than 72 hours (or three days) before the arrival at the destination. Consider arranging a private test or talking to your airlines for recommendations.
  • Travellers arriving from the UK should comply with the 14-day quarantine period. Upon arrival in Russia, you are expected to self-isolate for at least 14 days.
  • Testing positive or showing symptoms of COVID-19 would immediately require you to self-isolate until you recover and test negative on a PCR test. The government may also ask you to undergo some additional screening tests and requirements.
